Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service declares a Major Incident

Image credit: Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service

As of 1:30 pm (August 9), Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident. This relates to the cumulative impact of multiple incidents placing significant pressure on operational resources, rather than a single incident in isolation.

The Service is currently operating with very limited resources and reduced pump availability. As a result, response times to any further incidents are likely to be delayed. Still call 999 in an emergency.

NFRS would like to remind people not to light any fires, such as campfires or BBQs, and to take extra care when disposing of cigarettes due to the incredibly dry conditions, as a spark could spread quickly.

Boy Racers Beware: Worksop Is Not the Place for Anti-Social Car Meets as Police Seize Cars

Robust Action Taken by Officers in Worksop. Officers from the Bassetlaw North Neighbourhood Policing Team responded yesterday (August 8) to reports of vehicles being driven in an anti-social manner along the A57.

As a result, two vehicles were seized using the new Section 59 powers, where no prior warning is required.

Anyone considering travelling to Worksop for organised "car meets" or gatherings involving anti-social driving should take this as a clear warning

This type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and officers will continue to take decisive action against those causing nuisance, danger, and disruption within our communities.

An Incredible Show of Support for One of Their Own

Earlier today, crews from Newark Fire Station and Worksop Fire Station took on an inspiring ladder climb challenge in Newark Market Place to support fellow firefighter Sophie, who is currently battling cancer.

Together, the crews climbed an incredible 8,000 feet and raised ยฃ616 towards Sophie's fundraising efforts.

This fantastic achievement is a testament to the strength, dedication and compassion shown by our fire service family and local community.

If you'd like to learn more about Sophie's story or make a donation, there is still time to support her cause through the fundraising page: Support Sophie's Fundraiser

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated so far, and to the crews for their remarkable efforts today. Wishing Sophie continued strength and support on her journey.

Thanks so much for reading our local newsletter and for supporting us. Weโ€™re committed to providing Bassetlaw with the quality local news service it deserves, but sustaining this work may come with some challenges. Our team is currently discussing how to make Bassetlaw Today financially viable in the long term, and one option weโ€™re considering is introducing a subscription model to help cover our costs.

We want to be open with you about these conversations so youโ€™re aware that a fee may need to be introduced in the future. If that happens, we hope youโ€™ll continue to stand with us and support the publication.

Have a great day and I look forward to seeing you read our next newsletter.
