More than 30 major road improvement schemes planned across Nottinghamshire this October

Six months into delivery, Nottinghamshire has already completed more highway improvement schemes than during the whole of last year.

Residents, road users and businesses across Nottinghamshire will continue to see significant investment in the county's roads this October, with more than 30 major resurfacing, machine lay patching and street lighting schemes planned across the county as part of Nottinghamshire County Council's record £181.25 million Highway Capital Maintenance Programme.

Six months into delivery, more highway improvement schemes have already been completed than during the whole of last year. The milestone reflects both the scale of the programme and the pace of delivery across Nottinghamshire, with resurfacing, preventative maintenance and targeted repairs helping to improve road condition, extend the life of the network and reduce the need for more extensive repairs in the future.

Nottinghamshire County Council, working with its highways partner Via East Midlands, has published its month-ahead programme of planned roadworks for October, featuring major resurfacing schemes across every district of the county.

Among the larger schemes planned this month are improvements on the A60 Mansfield Road and Church Street in Market Warsop, the A617/A6191 Chesterfield Road North and Pleasley Hill Way junction in Mansfield, both carriageways of the A57 Worksop Bypass, the A634 Sheffield Road in Blyth, the A638 London Road in Retford, the A614 Bawtry Road in Bircotes, the A60 Mansfield Road and Killisick Road in Arnold, and the A60 Loughborough Road and Mere Way roundabout in Rushcliffe.

Machine lay patching is also planned on the A60 Leeming Lane North in Mansfield Woodhouse, the A57 Worksop Bypass, the A6002 Woodhouse Way in Nuthall, the A1133 Besthorpe Road in Collingham and the A6075 Tuxford Road and Cocking Hill in Boughton and Kirton. Street lighting columns will be replaced on Export Drive in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Southwell Road West in Mansfield and Bramcote Drive in Beeston.

Alongside these works, the countywide surface dressing and micro asphalt programmes are treating more than 200 sites across Nottinghamshire. The surface dressing programme has now been completed for the season, with teams making the most of the weather-dependent delivery window. In the run-up to winter, targeted pre-patching repairs have been carried out at locations across the county, and any surface dressing sites that could not be treated this year will be prioritised at the earliest opportunity in 2027.

Micro asphalt works will continue throughout October and into November, helping to extend the life of suitable roads by sealing the surface against water ingress and reducing the formation of potholes and cracks.

In addition to the major schemes, local repair teams and JCB Pothole Pro crews will continue delivering patch repairs, mastic treatments and localised improvements in communities across Nottinghamshire, helping to maintain road condition ahead of the winter period.

Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said:

“Six months into this year's Highway Capital Maintenance Programme, we have already delivered more improvement schemes than we completed during the whole of last year. That is a clear indication of both the scale of our investment and the progress being made on the ground.
“This programme is about much more than repairing roads - by combining major resurfacing schemes with preventative treatments such as surface dressing, micro asphalt and patching, we are taking a long-term approach that helps to protect the network, improve reliability for road users and deliver better value for taxpayers.
“The completion of this year's surface dressing programme, together with the ongoing micro asphalt programme, will protect more than 200 sites across Nottinghamshire, while October's programme will continue to bring improvements to communities across the county.
“Every scheme contributes to a safer and more resilient highway network, helping residents, businesses and local communities stay connected. I’d like to thank road users and residents for their continued patience while this work is carried out.”

The works form part of Nottinghamshire County Council's record investment in highway maintenance, delivering resurfacing, repairs and infrastructure improvements that help to keep roads safe, improve journey reliability and support long-term network resilience.

Via East Midlands will continue to deliver its year-round programme of preventative maintenance, including highway gully and drainage cleansing, tree inspections and surface repairs.

The full schedule of works is available on the Notts Highways website, with updates provided regularly to reflect any changes arising from weather conditions or operational requirements.
