Yellow Weather Warning Issued for the East Midlands
The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for parts of the East Midlands, with thunderstorms, heavy downpours and prolonged periods of rain expected on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 August.
There is a small risk of flooding and disruption, including:
🏠 Quick flooding of homes and businesses
⚡ Possible damage from lightning strikes or hail
🚌 Delays and cancellations to bus and train services
🚙 Difficult driving conditions due to spray and flash flooding
🚧 Some road closures
🔌 Potential power cuts and disruption to services
Flash flooding is possible, and travel disruption may occur at short notice. Please take extra care, plan journeys ahead, and check with your transport provider before travelling.

East Midlands
Nottinghamshire County Council invite Veterans from across Nottinghamshire to a special coach trip to Imperial War Museum North in Manchester on Sunday 18 October 2026.
The trip is completely free of charge, including travel and entry to the museum, and is a great opportunity for veterans to explore it, reflect on the experiences of those who have served and enjoy a day out with other members of Nottinghamshire’s Armed Forces community.
Coach 1 – Mansfield 9.30am departure from Mansfield Civic Centre, NG17 1AU. Arrive at IWM North at approximately 11.15am
Coach 2 – Newark & Worksop: 9.30am departure from Newark Castle House, NG24 1BY. 10.00am departure from Worksop Library S80 2BP. Arrive at IWM North at approximately 11.30am
Coach 3 – County Hall 9.30am departure from County Hall, NG2 7QP. Arrive at IWM North at approximately 11.30am
All coaches will leave IWM North at 4.30pm.
Places are limited, so veterans wishing to attend are encouraged to reserve their place as soon as possible.

Councillor Grant Support Holiday Hunger Scheme Across Bassetlaw
A local charity is helping to support families throughout the school holidays with essential products thanks to a £1,350 Councillor Community Grant.
From The Heart Charity based in Worksop run a campaign called The Holiday Hunger Scheme which helps distribute food parcels and toiletries to support families experiencing financial hardship during the school holidays and half term breaks.
The scheme has already supported 1,224 children and provided 6,430 meals to families in need across the District and the grant, donated by a group of Bassetlaw District Councillors, will help to purchase more food and essential toiletries.
Jess McGlone, Charity Coordinator at From The Heart Charity said:
"We are incredibly grateful to the councillors who generously contributed to our Holiday Hunger Scheme.
“Their funding will make a real difference to families across Worksop and the district during the school holidays, helping us provide essential food parcels and toiletries to those who need them most. At a time when many households face increased financial pressures, this support ensures that local children and families can access vital supplies and receive a helping hand when it matters most.”
Cllr Clayton Tindle, Cllr Josie Potts and Cllr John Shephard, Ward Members for Worksop South-East spoke on behalf of the councillors who contributed, and said:
"We are delighted, alongside our fellow councillors, to have been able to support From The Heart Charity and its Holiday Hunger Scheme through our councillor grants. The work they do throughout Bassetlaw is making a real difference to families facing financial hardship, particularly during school holidays when many households can come under additional pressure.

Their commitment to supporting local people ensures that families across our district have access to essential food and toiletries when they need them most. This is a fantastic example of communities coming together to help one another, and we are proud to support an initiative that has already helped so many children and families across Bassetlaw."
The councillors who contributed towards the Holiday Hunger Scheme are: Cllr Julie Leigh and Cllr Tony Eaton, Ward Members for Worksop South; Cllr Josie Potts, Cllr Clayton Tindle and Cllr John Shephard, Ward Members for Worksop South-East; Cllr Cliff Entwistle, Ward Member for Worksop East; Cllr Fraser Merryweather, Ward Member for Worksop North-East; Cllr Maria Charlesworth, Ward Member for Worksop North and Cllr Susan Shaw, Ward Member for East Retford East.
Since From The Heart Charity was formed in 2017, the charity has raised over £15,000 for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and other families’ appeals in the local community.
The sole aim of the charity is to make in-roads to alleviate severe systemic socio-economic deprivation and persistent poverty to local families with children and young people and provide them with the resources they need to lead a better quality of life.

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small annual budget and has the discretion to award grants to support community activities within their ward. Councillor grants may support projects related to sport, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability, social welfare, and general community benefit.
The Canch Splash Park Update
The Canch Splash Park in Worksop is back open and ready for the Bank Holiday weekend ahead after essential maintenance work has been completed, and mandatory water testing came back clear.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said:
“After identifying large scale repairs and refurbishments that needed to be made in October 2025 we have carried out a significant £160k rebuild, which includes a new bespoke insulated plant room building, new electrics and components throughout, refurbished pumps and pipes, a new chlorinating unit, and new start buttons on the splash pad.
“Unfortunately, the project has experienced a number of delays over the last six-months, and we apologise. This includes the start date of the specialist contractor, who was not available until May 2026.
“This essential maintenance will make the Splash Park safer, more reliable, and extend its useable life so it can be enjoyed by children and families for many more years to come.
“I welcome this investment which confirms our commitment to providing splash parks across the district now and into the future.
“I appreciate this has been frustrating and disappointing for everyone, especially during the really warm weather this summer, and we’re grateful for your patience.”
Bank Holiday Rail Chaos Warning for East Midlands Passengers
East Midlands rail passengers are being urged to travel only if absolutely essential over the Bank Holiday weekend, as RMT strike action and Network Rail engineering works will severely reduce services to and from London.
EMR says trains between Sheffield, Nottingham and London St Pancras will be extremely busy, with possible queuing at stations and some passengers unable to board their planned service. Sunday is expected to be particularly challenging due to the suspension of LNER services between London King’s Cross and Peterborough.
Passengers are advised to check journeys carefully and, if possible, travel on alternative dates. Further strike action is also planned for September.
EMR has apologised for the disruption and says it continues talks with the RMT to resolve the dispute.
