Have your say on proposed Housing Repairs Policy
Bassetlaw District Council is consulting with tenants, leaseholders and other stakeholders on a new draft Housing Repairs Policy which aims to improve the delivery of its repairs and maintenance services.
The proposed changes aim to ensure that repairs are completed right first time, enable the council to plan work in a better and more efficient way, and clearly set out who is responsible for specific repair and maintenance issues.
Information and survey forms about the consultation are being posted to all tenants to take part in the process and give their views.
Cllr Lynne Schuller, Cabinet Member for Housing and Estates said: “We want to hear from our tenants about these proposed changes to our Housing Repairs Policy.
“We hope people will take the time to provide their feedback which will help us make informed decisions ahead of the draft policy being presented to cabinet in the summer.”
The draft Housing Repairs Policy also continues to ensure the council, as a landlord, is meeting its statutory and regulatory obligations of the Regulator of Social Housing’s Consumer Standards.
It has been created following an independent review of repairs and maintenance, which identified several issues and inconsistencies that can cause delays and inefficiency.
Since then, a full review of the Repairs Policy has taken place including the setting up of a Steering Group consisting of tenants, cross party elected members and officers, supported by the Housing Consultants in March 2025. They have been looking at the current repairs policy including tenant obligations, timescales, rechargeable repairs and service operating hours.
The consultation runs from Monday 20th April to Sunday 31st May.
Feedback gathered will be reflected in the draft Repairs Policy before it is presented to Cabinet in July 2026 and Full Council for approval with adoption proposed in September 2026.

Bright future for Lindrick Players thanks to councillor grant
An amateur theatre company based in Carlton-in-Lindrick will be entertaining audiences again this year thanks to a £1,220 grant from a group of Bassetlaw District Councillors.
The funding has contributed to making essential safety improvements to the company’s sound and lighting booth, meaning they can continue to put on future performances in a safe and enjoyable way.
Sam Caudwell, Secretary of Lindrick Players, said: "We are extremely grateful for this grant, which will allow us to bring in a structural engineer to assess and certify our equipment ahead of this year’s productions and those in the future.
“Safety is at the heart of everything we do, both for our members and our audiences, and this support ensures we can continue delivering high‑quality, community theatre with confidence. Investing in this vital work helps safeguard our group for years to come, and we truly appreciate the backing for local arts."
The councillors who contributed parts of their grant to Lindrick Players are: Cllr Robin Carrington-Wilde, Cllr David Pidwell and Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Ward Members for Carlton; Cllr Gill Freeman, Ward Member for Langold; Cllr Tony Eaton, Ward Member for Worksop South; Cllr Susan Shaw, Ward Member for East Retford East and Cllr Graham Oxby, Ward Member for East Retford North.
