Police Search South Yorkshire Land in Long-Running Murder Investigation
Peter Turner, formerly of Doncaster Road, Worksop, was convicted of Teresa's murder in 1996 and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Police are excavating land in South Yorkshire as part of an ongoing search for the body of Teresa Shephard, a Sheffield woman who was murdered after disappearing in 1995.
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed detectives are searching a site off Piper Lane in Aston, Rotherham. Officers are expected to remain at the location for the next few days, with a police cordon established around the area.
Teresa, who was 26 and lived in Basegreen, Sheffield, went missing in June 1995. Although her killer was convicted the following year, her body has never been recovered.
Police said Teresa's family have been informed of the latest search activity and will continue to receive updates on the investigation.
Teresa was last seen by her grandmother at the beginning of June 1995 when she went to collect washing. On the day she disappeared, she told friends she was travelling by tram to Crystal Peaks shopping centre to meet a man for a picnic in nearby fields. She was not seen again.
The current search is focused on locating Teresa's remains more than three decades after her disappearance.

Have your say on Cake Sheds in Bassetlaw
Bassetlaw District Council is asking cake shed operators, residents, and local businesses to share their views on how cake sheds and cupboards should be considered as part of its Street Trading Policy.
The Council has launched a consultation to further understand the broad range of opinions on cake sheds and cupboards, which will be used to help the Council make a final decision on the policy as part of a future meeting of Licensing Committee.
This includes assessing options such as retaining the current policy, removing cake sheds from the policy completely, or introducing a simpler permit or consent system.
Cllr June Evans, Cabinet Member for Governance, said: “We know cake sheds and cupboards are important to some local communities, and we also understand there are different views about how they should be managed.
"We would like to learn more about the views on this subject and will listen carefully to the views put forward as part of this consultation. It’s important that people take part, whatever your view, as the information will help to ensure that any future approach is fair, clear and workable.”
The online consultation began on Tuesday 15th September and people have until Wednesday 21st October to register their views.
The consultation will ask people what benefits or concerns they see, and whether any safeguards should be considered as well as asking for information to help understand whether the proposals could affect different groups in different ways.
There will also be four drop-in sessions across the district providing additional information for anyone with questions about the policy and the consultation. These will take place in:
Retford Market – Saturday 3rd October, 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
Harworth and Bircotes Town Hall – Thursday 8th October, 10am to 12noon.
Tuxford, Museum of the Horse – Thursday 15th October, 2pm to 4pm.
Worksop Market – Saturday 17th October, 10am to 12noon
Following the conclusion of the consultation, feedback will be reviewed and reported back to the Licensing Committee on Wednesday 11th November.
While the consultation takes place, the Council has paused enforcement of its policy relating to licensing cake sheds and cupboards.

Local Martial Arts Club Continues to Grow in Worksop
An £800 Community Grant from Bassetlaw District Councillors has made a striking difference for a Martial Arts group in Worksop.
The Jukado Ryu-Martial Arts and Self Defence group has been able to purchase essential equipment such as gloves, crash mats, strike pads and other fitness equipment for their sessions.
The sessions teach the fundamentals of Aikido, Jujitsu and Karate to form Aikijitsu, a modern effective self-defence style that is suitable for all ages. Currently the group has around 12 members and it’s the only group in Bassetlaw to teach this style of martial arts.
Matthew Hyland, Chief Instructor of Jukado-Ryu Martial Arts and Self Defence group said:
"We are incredibly grateful to the councillors for supporting our group through this grant. As a community-based martial arts club, funding like this makes a real difference and allows us to purchase vital equipment that will enhance our training sessions for both existing and new members.
“On behalf of everyone at Jukado-Ryu, I'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to the councillors for recognising the value of local community groups and investing in activities that help people stay active, learn new skills and feel connected. Their support will have a lasting impact on our members and on those who join us in the future."
Cllr Paddy Ducey, Ward Member for Worksop South and Cllr Maria Charlesworth, Ward Member for Worksop North, jointly spoke on behalf of the Councillors who contributed funds towards the Martial Arts Group.
They said:
"We're delighted to be able to support Jukado-Ryu, clubs like this are at the heart of our communities, giving people a chance to keep active, meet new people and be part of something positive.
"Matthew and the team have built a welcoming club that means a great deal to its members, and we know this equipment will help them continue to grow and reach even more people in the area.
"It's always rewarding to see these grants make a real difference locally, and we're looking forward to seeing the club go from strength to strength in the years ahead."
The Councillors who contributed funds towards the Jukado-Ryu Martial Arts group are: Cllr Maria Charlesworth and Cllr Neil Sanders, Ward Members for Worksop North; Cllr Paddy Ducey and Cllr Julie Leigh, Ward Members for Worksop South; Cllr Cliff Entwistle, Ward Member for Worksop East; Cllr Josie Potts, Ward Member for Worksop South-East and Cllr Carolyn Troop, Ward Member for East Retford South.

Each Bassetlaw District Councillor is allocated a small annual budget and has the discretion to award grants to support community activities within their ward. Councillor grants may support projects related to sport, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability, social welfare, and general community benefit.

More adopters needed to help shape children's futures across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands
More people across Nottinghamshire are being urged to consider adoption and give children the safe, loving and permanent family they deserve as part of the national 'Every Day is Everything' campaign.
Across Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, Derby and Derbyshire, children wait an average of 300 days to be adopted, leaving many without the stability, security and sense of belonging that a permanent family can provide.
Adoption East Midlands is hosting information events: 📅 6 October, 12pm to 2pm (online) 📅 20 October, 5.30pm to 8pm (in person at County Hall, Matlock, Derbyshire)
Rose, who adopted through Adoption East Midlands, said adoption completed her family and gave her daughter a place she can call home. She praised the support she received throughout the adoption journey and the many positive experiences they have shared together as a family.
Councillor Rory Green, Cabinet Member for Children and Families at Nottinghamshire County Council, said every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a safe, loving and stable home and encouraged people to find out whether adoption could be right for them.
