Action taken after two teenagers destroyed farmer’s crops
Police issued a warning after two teenagers caused damage to crops on private farmland - with one put before the courts. The duo were found trespassing on private farmland at Ollerton Road, Retford, on 14 December 2025.
After gaining access, they drove round on mopeds and destroyed thousands of pounds worth of crops. Damning evidence found on the social media site Tik Tok captured one of the teenagers driving a moped across the land.
A 17-year-old boy then appeared in Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 20 April. He pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property, driving without a licence and driving without insurance. He has been ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation, has had six points added to his driving record and has been referred to a youth offender panel.
A 16-year-old boy was handed a community resolution order, which bans him from entering private farmland as well as driving a vehicle.
Lincoln City's winning run continues
Lincoln City were been granted a hat-trick of planning approvals. The plans include the creation of a new event and hospitality space behind the existing Rilmac Stand. On matchdays, the covered area will feature a large bar aimed at increasing service capacity and reducing queues.
A new community space will be developed next to the club shop and ticket office in the Greenlinc Renewables Stand. It will operate throughout the week as well as on matchdays. The new event space will accommodate up to 350 people and is intended to host conferences and other functions, broadening the stadium’s non-matchday offer.
Council to inject extra £58.75m into fixing roads as part of record-breaking investment
An extra £58.75 million was announced to be invested across Nottinghamshire as part of a record-breaking funding package.
Nottinghamshire County Council has announced details of phase two of its wide-ranging highways capital programme to fix its highways network – taking its investment for the next 12 months to an eye-catching £181.25m.
A man was arrested following a serious collision in Worksop.
Emergency services were called to Kilton Hill at 12.38pm on Wednesday (22 April) after reports of a collision involving two motorcycles and a van. One of the motorcyclists, a teenage boy, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalised. Two other teenagers were also taken to hospital with less serious injuries.
An investigation was launched and police have arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

An Exciting Step Forward for the Aurora Centre
The Aurora Wellbeing Centre in Worksop is undergoing a major transformation to help support families across the district thanks to a £1,800 Councillor Community Grant.
The centre is creating a dedicated Family Therapy Suite, with a focus on supporting children and young people affected by cancer in their family. The suite will provide a safe and nurturing space designed to feel calm and welcoming, rather than clinical.
Plans to convert old maltings building in Notts town

A former maltings building in a Nottinghamshire town could be converted into supported living apartments. The mid-19th-century two-storey maltings in Gateford Road, Worksop, was historically a malthouse but currently functions as a warehouse.
However, the old building could soon be used for specialist accommodation after Havenkaye Building Services Ltd submitted plans to Bassetlaw District Council to convert the space.
New family contact centre in Worksop continues to takes shape
Improved facilities for some of the county’s most vulnerable young people are one step closer to reality, with a new roof now in place at the new, fit-for-purpose family contact centre in Worksop.
Named Harmony House, the centre will help deliver safeguarding services. This includes offering a safe, welcoming space for looked-after children and young people to have supervised family time with their birth families. Work started on the new county council building in 2025 and is due to be completed by late summer this year.
Man Jailed for breaching ban in Worksop Town Centre
A man who persistently breached a ban on entering parts of Worksop Town Centre was jailed for three months at Mansfield County Court.
The District Judge heard how Martin Heath, 46, of no fixed address, had previously breached the ASB Injunction Order in September 2025 with the court imposing a suspended committal sentence to give him an opportunity to avoid custody.
Move More in May Returns to Bassetlaw
Bassetlaw is gearing up to be more active once again as Move More in May returns, encouraging people across the district to add more movement into their everyday lives as part of the Let’s Get Going Bassetlaw Campaign.
Throughout May, individuals, schools and local businesses across Bassetlaw are being invited to take part in activities that help them move more, feel better and enjoy being active at their own pace. This year’s Move More in May goal for 2026 is to reach 45 million moves together, the equivalent of walking around Clumber Park 7,358 times. Schools and workplaces are encouraged to get involved by logging everyday movement, from classroom activity breaks and active travel to workplace step challenges and team walks, while individuals can take part by simply tracking their own daily movement.
Beaumond House named as APSS charity partner for 2026
Beaumond House Hospice Care has been named as the 2026 charity partner for APSS, a commercial interior design and fit out company based in Lincolnshire.
The APSS team is set to host a range of fundraising events in support of the hospice, including its annual Golf Day, which will raise vital funds for care services in the local community.
The partnership will help Beaumond House to provide supportive palliative care to patients and families across North Nottinghamshire, ranging from in-patient care and day therapy to Hospice at Home services and bereavement support.
New JCB pothole machines to be on Notts roads ‘within two weeks’

Reform’s new JCB pothole machines will be working on the county’s roads within the next two weeks, says the council leader.
Back in February, the Reform-led Nottinghamshire County Council announced it would be purchasing at least two JCB Pothole Pro machines to help with tackling the declining state of the county’s roads. The machines have been trialled by neighbouring Reform-run authorities in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire and typically cost between £150,000 and £200,000.
Countryside activity centre wants to be good neighbour as locals fear it’s ‘becoming a theme park’

The man running a popular Nottinghamshire outdoor activity centre “wants to be a good neighbour” after residents raised fears the site was “becoming a theme park”.
Walesby Forest, an outdoors adventure activity centre around two miles from Ollerton, hosts more than 30 activities from its Brake Road location and offers accommodation to its visitors. It was able to host events for up to 4,999 visitors, but was granted a licence on Thursday (April 23) to double its capacity to 9,999 people, as well as extend the hours for late night refreshments and supply of alcohol.
The not for profit organisation offers experiences aimed at educating visitors in a “fun and safe environment within the heart of Sherwood Forest.”
Bassetlaw planners to decide on 16 new dwellings on land off Stockwith Road, Walkeringham
Full planning permission for the construction of 16 dwellings with associated access, landscaping and car parking has been applied for on land East of and fronting Stockwith Road, Walkeringham (Planning application no. 26/00321/FUL).
The 16 proposed properties are described as being for market housing, consisting of four two bedroom properties and sixteen three bedroom properties. There are eight semi-detached properties and eight detached dwellings proposed including thirty two parking spaces are proposed in total.
Platform customers visit National Holocaust Museum to learn lessons from history
Customers and colleagues from Platform Housing Group recently visited the National Holocaust Museum near Newark in Nottinghamshire as part of an educational trip focused on learning from the past and promoting stronger, more inclusive communities.
The visit, which took place last month, brought together 15 people, including eight customers and seven colleagues. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the atrocities of the Holocaust and consider the importance of challenging prejudice, discrimination and hate in today’s society.
Update on policing in Bassetlaw from Inspector Robert Harrison
Inspector Robert Harrison provided the latest update on policing in Bassetlaw covering January - March, 2026.
'Our key local policing priorities, which are agreed quarterly after consultation with the public, local partners and reviewing crime trends are drug supply and drug use in Worksop town centre, rural crime in East Bassetlaw and burglary'.
Retford F.C. Receive Green Light for New Rail Development from Bassetlaw Planners
Bassetlaw District Council has approved plans for the development of a new 3G artificial grass pitch at the Rail Ground, following a decision made on Monday 20 April.
The approval represents a major milestone for the club and the wider community, paving the way for the delivery of a modern, all‑weather playing surface that will support football at all levels. The proposed floodlit 3G pitch will enable year‑round use, improve training and match provision, and significantly enhance facilities at the Rail Ground for clubs, schools and community groups.
Shirebrook based Frasers Group has acquired two major UK retail destinations, significantly increasing its presence in the outlet sector.
The group has purchased York Designer Outlet and East Midlands Designer Outlet, which together attract almost 7.8 million visitors a year.
York Designer Outlet comprises around 250,000 sq ft of retail space and hosts approximately 120 brands, with annual footfall of 4.3 million. East Midlands Designer Outlet spans 170,000 sq ft, includes more than 65 brands and attracts around 3.5 million visitors annually.
Remembrance Project brought to life by Worksop Primary School Students
On Wednesday morning (29/4/2026), 30 students from Holy Family Catholic Primary School visited Worksop Cemetery, Retford Road, to install sixty six photographs of military veterans, and one civilian casualty killed in an air raid, on the scattered graves and family memorials located here.
This is part of a remembrance project involving students from local primary schools from Worksop and Retford, in which they will be installing a total of 128 photographs of Military Veterans in cemetery locations, on the veterans’ graves and family memorials by 8th May, VE Day.
Bassetlaw District Council issue update on new 'Binformation App'
Bassetlaw District Council have provided an update on the progress of their new ‘Binformation App’ following the previously advertised launch during April.
The council says that both a Mobile App and Web App that allows residents to check their bin collection days, find out what items should be put in what bin, and much more information about waste and recycling in Bassetlaw is almost ready to be released. The council has also apologised for the delay but anticipate that an announcement on both versions of the App will be made very soon.
Worksop independent spirits producer lands Fortnum & Mason listing
Independent British spirits producer DropWorks Rum has secured a new retail listing with Fortnum & Mason.
The Sherwood Forest distillery is the largest rum distillery in Europe and will launch a selection of products through the retailer, including its Rum Gift Set, Barrel Drop and limited-edition Distiller’s Drop #001.
Worksop Town 2-1 Worsbrough Bridge Athletic
Worksop Town won the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup for a historic 16th time.
The Tigers become the first team since 1899 to win the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup for a third year in a row with a hard fought win. Two nil up after 54 minutes The Tigers deserved their lead however a late goal on 84 minutes meant a tense finale to the final with both sides pushing forward in an end-to-end finish.
Landlords’ fines reduced to £104,500 on appeal
Two Worksop landlords who put the safety of their tenants in danger after failing to carry out urgent repairs at two of their properties have had their appeal against their fines and costs partially upheld at Nottingham Crown Court.
The husband and wife were originally ordered to pay a total of £171,964 in fines and costs after failing to provide financial information to the courts, despite being ordered to do so. At Nottingham Crown Court on 16th April 2026, an appeal was partially upheld with a reduction in their original fines and costs, and the pair were ordered to pay a total of £104,500.

Arrest following theft from vehicle in Worksop
Officers received a report of a vehicle being entered on Plantation Hill, with a bank card stolen. Enquiries identified that the stolen card had been used at a local shop.
Thanks to prompt reporting, CCTV enquiries and patrol work, officers located a suspect in the town centre and made an arrest within 45 minutes of the offence being reported.
Bassetlaw has the highest number of stray dogs in the UK, nearly double the number of the next highest council
The dog marketplace analysed data from Freedom of Information requests sent to Bassetlaw Council. They asked the council for the number of dogs reported as strays, the number of dogs seized, and the number of stray dogs returned to their owners from January 2021 to December 2025.
In total, 10,632 stray dogs have been reported across the region. Sadly, just 72 have been returned to their owners, meaning that less than 1% of stray dogs find their way back home. This figure means Bassetlaw has the highest number of stray dogs in the UK, reporting nearly double the number of the next highest council.
